​Veronica Knapp - First Female Army Divisional Command Sergeant Major

After serving the U.S. Army since 2000, Veronica Knapp was the first woman to be a Command Sergeant Major at the divisional level. Stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, the home of the famed 101st Airborne Division (AASLT), DCSM Veronica Knapp drove initiatives to improve the quality of life of more than 30,000 service members and their families over the span of 2 years.

CSM Knapp has received numerous honors over the span of her 25 years of service. Upon successful completion of her duties at Ft. Campbell she received the Legion of Merit, Romanian Emblem of Merit, the Order of Santa Barbara and was rated the in the top 1% of nominative CSMs over the span of 30 years by the XVIII Airborne Corps Commanding General. After her 24-month obligation at Fort Campbell, she was nominated by a panel of the Army's top enlisted leaders, selected over 4 other nominative level enlisted leaders by a General Officer, and endorsed by the Sergeant Major of the Army to lead at a second 2 Star level Command in Fort McNair, District of Columbia.

Enlisting as a military police officer, she rose through the ranks to key assignments at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Fort Bragg in North Carolina, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Previous assignments for CSM Knapp include Camp Humphries in South Korea, where she was the deputy warden of the U.S. Army Corrections Facility. In charge of pre- and post-trial confinement, she improved compliance of over 350 American Correctional Association standards and supervised 81 security personnel operating within the confinement facility. During her tour, the organization was nominated and subsequently selected as the best Military Police Unit in the Army.

CSM Knapp is slated to earn a BA in Criminal Justice from Upper Iowa University this spring where she earlier obtained an associate degree. In her post-military life, she intends to spend time with her siblings and travel.
